Case Study: Long Beach Juneteenth

Executive summary

RYTHMz partnered with Happiest Ours and WTB Solutions to provide wireless internet for the annual Long Beach Juneteenth Celebration. The network supported POS systems, operational devices and an event welcoming more than 15,000 attendees in a park without traditional internet infrastructure.

The challenge

The celebration required a complete network solution for POS transactions, attendee check-in, management communications and social media management. Organizers also wanted to offer attendees free Wi-Fi through a captive portal that could gather email addresses for future engagement.

Objectives

Provide reliable Wi-Fi across the park for a large crowd; maintain a dedicated operational network for business activity and transactions; enable social sharing, live streaming and interactive updates; and give attendees access to digital resources about the historical significance of Juneteenth.

The solution

Four RYTHMz boxes were positioned throughout the park to support coverage in densely populated areas. The deployment used 5G connectivity from all three major US carriers, with thirteen SIM cards to support speed and resilience.

Starlink satellite connectivity added redundancy. Centrally located with the high-capacity QueenConnect unit, it was distributed to the other network nodes to support continuity during cellular congestion or localized outages.

Implementation

Before the celebration, RYTHMz worked with the organizers to assess requirements and develop a deployment plan. The team arrived early on event day to install equipment and test coverage and performance throughout the space.

Real-time monitoring and proactive adjustments continued during peak attendance and key activities. RYTHMz’s dedicated technical support helped keep the operational and attendee networks available throughout the event.

The outcome

Attendees could share performances and personal experiences on social media in real time. Reliable network access and technical support enabled participants to access information, connect with one another and take part in the celebration.

The deployment supported the event’s operational requirements while extending accessible connectivity to the community, demonstrating a practical approach for temporary outdoor events without fixed internet infrastructure.

Future implications

Building on this collaboration, RYTHMz continues to explore temporary connectivity for community celebrations. For future deployments that require temporary power, the case study identifies battery backup as an option, drawing on experience at other events to support uninterrupted service.
